The work Transformer consists of two photos opposite of eachother at the side walls of a small room and a projection at the back of the room. When entering the room the visitor cannot see the photos (transformers) without blocking the projection. Therefore this projection has been changed by the shadow of the visitor. When the visitor leaves the room, the projection will become the same as it was before entering the room. But what happened with the visitor? Is everything still the same?

There is a period in the transition of a male-female transsexual where her body changes due to the hormonal treatment. Breast will grow, the tissue softens, and her face gets more round. Dressed in clothes she looks like a woman and is often accepted as one. But the truth is shown when she's nude. Until surgery, her body will not be as it should be, as we aspect it to be. Going to a gym, a swimmingpool or the beach isn't possible. This will not be tolerated by our society. She will be pointed out as a freak and people will react horrified.
The lower part of this shop window mannequin is still male, while the upper part is a woman. The jewellery is made from used tampons which represents the horrified reaction people will have seeing her naked. But she has a small comfort, it's just a period.

This steel sculpture shows the woman-symbol. But it's constructed from the man-symbol. The arrow is cut of brutaly and bold to the bottom of the circle. The scars can still be seen. Plastic surgery made it possible for transsexuals to change their genitalia. But can you whipe out your history? The scars will always be visible.
The music placed in this sculpture sounds like metal scraping. You can 'hear' the changing of gender. Meanwhile a voice says: It's a boy, a boy... (this parts refers to the birth of a baby where the first respons is to tell which gender the baby has) ...You're not a boy, I'm not a boy, I'm a girl, a girl... (this part refers to the gender conflict of the child) ...You're a boy, I'm a girl, I'm not a boy, I'm not a girl... I am?... I am...! (the latest part shows the inevitable conflict of the gender and finish with the conclusion that you are who you are).

The railway station of Rotterdam is under construction. Buildings are taken down and a large constructionpit takes its place. But what if you cannot see?
Manny Boon, a blind woman aged nearly sixty, strolls through the new railway station area. Passing the stationsquare, the platforms, the departurehall and the temporary pedestrian tunnel.
She had her visibility till the age of twentyfive. Therefore she has a clear picture in her mind how the railway station looks like. But this picture in her mind doesn't match reality anymore. How can she get a new idea of the railways tation?
During our stroll, we talk about the new skyline which is build in the heart of Rotterdam. What can be seen? Can you see the railway tracks, since the departure building is taken down? Where are the little shops? While I tell her about the new railway station and the larg construction pit arround it, Manny tells her experiences about being blind. Funny stories, but also the problems she got. What to do when a mobile Dutch Doughnut shop is placed on the pavement right on the visibly handicaped stroke?

Young and innocent people are send to fight a war which was started in the safe offices of many presidents. A lot of these soldiers die each day and are send back to their family wrapped up in their national flag.
With the United States of America as the only superpower left in the World, it has the power to dictate the world. Unfortunatelly it uses this power to start wars with countries which results in a lot of unnecessary casulties.
With the strait jacket Mijke wants to point out that the USA has tied the rest of the world. But she doesn't want to be wrapped up in a flag. She doesn't want to die. With this street performance Mijke wants to point out this feeling and see the reactions of the crowd on the street. The street performance gave her a very unsafe feeling, because she is tied up, which represents the feeling she has about the influence of the USA. The reaction of the crowd shows the lack of interest people have about this issue. Most people didn't respond and seemed to take it for normal that someone stands in a strait jacket in the middle of a city.
Mijke has been send away by a security officer of the company Sting and by the police during her performance.
